Last week it was NZIPP in Queenstown. This week Photography By Woolf's 50th Anniversary exhibition in Wellington. They very kindly invited Heather and me to share in the family celebration afterwards. It was his birthday so ten-year-old Noah got to choose the restaurant. It was great fun, the whole extended family get on so well ... and it got me to thinking: 1. What a challenge it is to build a long standing family business that truly serves … the family. We know it. Chances are you do too. Well done to the Woolfs. 2. So many photographers got a start at Woolfs, and many of them featured in To View More >>

Phyllis & James were married on December the 10th, 2011 at a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the Lone Pine Lawn of the historic Vaucluse House in Sydney. The couple chose Trish Lee of Tealily Photography to capture their day. Phyllis wore Louboutin heels and a J'aton couture gown. Just gorgeous! And their reception was at Fort Denison. They chose a Duo 14x10H album, with a cover in Onyx Micro Leather. Here are a few layouts from their album. To see more work by Tealily Photography, click here. Enjoy! Anna To View More >>

Over the last few days I've had the pleasure of hosting Denis Reggie on a whirlwind visit to New Zealand. A lucky few had the chance to attend Denis's workshop. We got an insight into how he operates, and some valuable tips on how to get that killer shot. From the moment we arrived Denis's passion was evident. He loves photography, and weddings, and has some strong opinions on the modern day approach to shooting them. After shocking everybody with a challenge to "shoot a wedding without speaking", he opened our minds to the true meaning of wedding photojournalism and how it can be a part of every To View More >>

Nathalie & Emmanuel were married earlier this year at Dune du pyla in Arcachon, France. They were photographed by David Cardoso of Davidone Photography. Nathalie's dress was made by French couturier Laurent Kapelski. They also had a very cool 'day after' shoot where they could really relax and have fun with a little "trash the dress" style! Take a look at a few layouts from their Duo Pagemount 10x10 album. David also teamed up with Dolly Production to create a really beautiful film of this album. Take a look at the video below. Carla and Tim got married on the 4th of June 2011 at Whirlowbrook Hall. Here's what Carla said about her photographer. "Steve Gerrard was one of our first wedding bookings. His style of photography is artistically modern with more than a hint of super-cool. Because you’re around your photographer a lot, it’s really important to get someone who is on your wavelength & Steve was very much that. Through Steve’s pictures, I could kind of get an idea how our wedding was going to be portrayed and what our album was going to end up like which was really exciting." They are a very cool couple To View More >>

[caption id="attachment_7050" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Musée 10x7 dark tan; photography and page layout design by Johannes van Kan"][/caption] If you read my Musée story recently, you’ll recall it ended with a cliff-hanger … but it turned out well. You may remember we’d made an album featuring Christian [Oth's] images, but he'd never seen it. We were nervous. Well we finally did catch up, and he loved it. Then Johannes [van Kan’s] album of Virginia and Richard’s wedding won at WPPI. You can view his complete album on Youtube (no audio) or Vimeo (recommended: this is the To View More >>

Click here for Part 1. Who are those people ... the ones staring back at you thinking, 'What does he/she want us to do?' More importantly, how do they see the unfolding of their day? Is it a fairy tale? Is it some kind of weird reality show? Is it a 'performance'? Is it the beginning of something amazing? Is it a huge party? Is it something their mother planned? Is it theirs? That's the thing. We, as the image makers, also become the storytellers. We create the vocabulary for describing the unfolding of the day. If we don't photograph something, will it still be remembered in ten years time? To View More >>

Thomas & Rachael were married on the 19th June 2010 at St David’s Cathedral, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Their photographer, Ross Grieve says that "St David’s Cathedral is a stunning setting to start an unforgettable day. From St David’s we made our way back to Pointz Castle, Rachael’s family farm, where a huge marquee and everything you could wish for was in the middle of a paddock with the most stunning view. It was the sort of location that did just take your breath away. Rachael in her flowing dress was perfect for images on the cliff tops and Thomas just looked so proud." Here are To View More >>
