UPDATE: This recording has been removed and replaced by an updated version of our Advanced Photojunction webinar available for viewing here. Last week we jumped in the deep end and kicked off this year's Photojunction webinars with a brand new one - Tips, Tricks and Power Features. This is a follow-up to our newbie webinar and a little more advanced, so we assumed attendees had (some) experience with the software. In it, we covered lots of tips, tricks and power features including: - Working with PSDs and JPEGs - Sorting and selecting images - Alignment - Productivity features - Working with clients To View More >>

In a few hours we'll have made it to our holiday close-down. Each year we have a barbeque and a few drinks after work on the last day, and, because we operate from three sites (Bindery, Lab, IT team, not to mention a few outliers), it isn't possible to get everyone together for it. Which is a pity, because it's quite an emotional event - and a bit greasy too, given I'm one of those that helps with the cooking! Only a grinch could fail to notice what a friendly, hard-working, supportive bunch the people who work here are and what fun they are to be with. It's a real shame we can't all meet up. But To View More >>

I always enjoy Tom Fishburne's Brand Camp, and his latest cartoon makes a timely point. We've just finished Queensberry "Sales Week", where we we bring together our Account Managers and Support People from round the world to talk with the Design and IT teams, the Bindery, the Lab and Order Processing - and to each other of course. Like many of our clients, some of our people work alone most of the time and they enjoy the chance to mix it up. If that's the right expression – actually I admire the way everyone works so well together! But it's hard work for them. I was with them for a day, and To View More >>

Happy New year - we're back! Well we've had the traditional Kiwi summer holiday - rested up, enjoyed the beach (and shopping!), spent time with friends and family. Now we're back and ready to rock 'n roll! We hope you managed to enjoy the holiday season too - we look forward to catching up in 2008. Best wishes from everyone at Queensberry We shot this at the Bindery close-down BBQ - just in time - some of us had already disappeared to the shops! Nice of Santa to stop by and let his hair down. The lab reckon Christmas isn't Christmas without sun and a picnic. To View More >>

We're proud to announce that New Zealand’s two specialist Pro Labs are to merge. Bob and Lena Tulloch have decided it’s time to exit the lab business after twenty-seven years so they can focus on their studio and gallery in Mt Maunganui. They are delighted that the Super-Lab operation will become part of Queensberry’s lab services. Bob says, “After so many years of personal involvement in the printing business this will inevitably be a wrench, but we are personally committed to making the transition a success for Super-Lab clients. Queensberry has the same commitment as Super-Lab to quality, To View More >>

The PJ team have done a great job of LabFTP 3.2, especially this: "If you quit LabFTP, or turn off your computer, or pull the plug – or even if our server goes down – just double click on the order in the Order History window and the upload will resume!" Click here for help with the new version (we'll cover the Print Ordering function in a day or two). Cheers, Ian To View More >>

This post has been superseded by new Photojunction functionality. PJ Remix's Order Wizard saves "Bundles" (folders) of files to your hard disk ready for you to upload them to your album supplier and/or lab. But Remix itself doesn't do the upload. Queensberry does that with LabFTP. Somethimes confusion arises around two points: 1. Occasionally users think they're done once they've run through the Order Wizard. Not so. All you've done is email us to expect an order. You still need to upload the files. 2. Occasionally a photographer will open the bundle, take out what (s)he thinks we need and uploaded To View More >>

This is an important message if you send us layered PSD files. If any of the layers have reduced opacity what you see on screen may NOT match the print - unless you check an obscure preference box in Photoshop’s Colour Settings. In this post we'll tell you what to do about it, and why. In Color Settings’ Advanced Controls you should CHECK the box, “Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma” (as in the graphic). Leave the value set to 1.00. This is considered ‘colorimetrically correct’ by Adobe and will match our settings in the Lab. This check box affects the way that RGB colours are blended and To View More >>

Food for thought... Photographers do a huge amount more now than they used to in the old days - and it's questionable whether they get paid for it. They used to "send their work to the lab", now they ARE the lab. Colour management and colour correction used to be the lab's problem, now they're the photographer's. My thought for the day – you can't afford cheap printing for two reasons: - YOU do all the work - that's why it's cheap. - BECAUSE you do all the work you can't do other, more profitable stuff (or just go home earlier in the evenings). Truth to tell, many photographers would also get To View More >>

If you want your order to sail smoothly through our ordering process, please make sure it's ready to go before you send it. Hopefully this post will give you some insight into why that's so important – why even minor changes to an order can cause a lot of work at our end. For example, suppose you request design or layout changes, or send us new versions of image files or album plans. First we have to call up your original order and work out exactly what you want done to it – not easy when we have hundreds of albums working their way through production at any one time. We may need to, for example: To View More >>
