Gotta love her: Bride by Steve and Cheryl, photography by Johannes, album by Queensberry Why do images look so good in books? I asked myself that question as I walked out of the new Aussie movie, Tomorrow when the war began in which the main character delivers a satiric line, "The book usually is better than the movie"... Take an image accompanied by a line of text in a great print ad. Or a series of images of a bride walking down the aisle in an album. Or a double page spread of a horizon in National Geographic. I reckon it's because the real beauty of the images is only discovered when they're To View More >>

Christina and Jesse's album, by 2010 New Zealand photographer of the year Tony Carter, has been on lock-down for the past few months while it was entered into the recent NZIPP Iris Awards. It emerged not long ago sporting a Bronze for the Wedding album category; just one of the awards Tony picked up. Christina and Jesse married in late January at Waiaua Estate, North Taranaki, New Zealand, and went for a wide format 18x10 Duo album... What made this wedding extra special for US photographer Andy Donnan was that it was the wedding of his grandmother - aged 83. Ruth and Jerry wanted to keep things simple and low-key, and other than the Pastor, Andy and his girlfriend were the only guests present. Andy says, "My grandmother raised me since I was a baby. Effectively, she is whom I call mum and grandma. I love her and am forever thankful. "It was so great to spend a couple of hours photographing for her and Jerry (and for the rest of our families). July is the busiest time of the year for me, so to have the free-time to witness and To View More >>

All Amy and Grant's wedding plans nearly ground to a halt with a massive snowfall the evening before. Photographer Guy Collier, who shot their big day, says, "Things were a bit touch and go the night before, but we made it in the end. They're a great couple and we had great fun." The chilly weather bomb made for some great bridal photos. Here's their 14x10 album... To see more images from Amy and Grant's wedding, check out Guy's blog. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

Meet Chris MacKenzie. He's new to the industry. He's working hard to build his business. He's doing it in the tough UK market. And, he's just set up a promotion with an exclusive venue in his area. A real 'corker' to use his words. "The first day I was there, I met the Executive Vice President at Pebble Beach Golf Resort. The next day I met a billionaire. On my third visit, I met an Australian couple who'd just returned from a luxury six week tour of Europe. They were so taken by my sample albums that the chap started asking about using Queensberry to display his holiday snaps." Now some might To View More >>

UK photographer Simon Whitten of Firehorse Photography shot Emma and Ben's wedding in the heart of winter on 9 January, 2010. Simon says, "This was my fourth wedding in a row this winter with snow on the ground, but it didn't stop us spending 20 minutes shooting the couple in the ruins of the neighbouring Bolton Priory... complete with Emma's grandmother's fur coat." They married at the New Life Church in Bradford, Yorkshire followed by their reception at The Devonshire Arms in the Yorkshire Dales. To view more of Simon's work check out his blog. (Photography by Simon Whitten) Truth is, sometimes I've felt a bit self-conscious writing about our wedding. Every day I see albums from top photographers around the world of the most elaborate, extravagant and expensive weddings you could imagine. Sometimes I've wondered if what I'm writing is even relevant ... because Kayla and I didn't get married in a castle! But my intention has been to share our experiences and insights, not to compare our wedding to another. And the truth is that the weddings we're lucky enough to share in at Queensberry take place everywhere, "from humble homes to palaces." To View More >>

The first thing you need in a wedding photographer is that they show up on the day. Simon Whitten gets from Venice to London under an ash cloud ... Thursday AM I am wrapped up in a honeymoon photo-shoot with clients in Venice when my phone rings: "Have you heard the news? - UK air space is being shutdown this evening from 7pm". Oh dear ... we are booked on a flight that afternoon to get back to the UK with a clear full day between our shoot in Venice and a wedding on the Saturday. The airline Jet2.com's website is useless, as are their emergency contact numbers. Not a single one of their phone To View More >>

Simon Whitten is a long-standing and valued Queensberry client from Yorkshire in England. His association with the luxury castle hotel Swinton Park is very important to him, and for years his Queensberry sample album has rested on the piano in the drawing room. When the time came to update it, the question was “with what?” Having covered many great weddings at Swinton Park, he decided on an 18x12 Duo “best of” album, featuring three couples/weddings that reflected both his own best work and Swinton Park at various times of the year. • Sarah and Paul had “a glorious summer wedding in To View More >>
