New Zealand photographer Sharisse Eberlein shot Jessica and Tavita's Martinborough wedding in the spring of 2009. The ceremony was held at the Riesling Retreat vineyards and followed by a reception at the local Martinborough Town Hall. Here's a snippet of their Ivory leather Duo album we spotted on Sharisse's blog... To view a slideshow of Jessica and Tavita's album click here. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

Simon Woolf is one of the most energetic and engaging people I know. When I interviewed him he was in Auckland as official photographer at our previous Prime Minister Helen Clark's investiture to the Order of New Zealand. He got a hug from Helen because they know each other that well and he's that nice a guy. A couple of nights earlier I'd spotted him on TV in the media scrum at Willie Apiata's Victoria Cross ceremony. Again he was the official photographer. And to complete the picture of a guy who's everywhere, one of his landscape images, of an unusual sunrise, had featured the day before in To View More >>

You sell what you show, right? Well here's a few Queensberry friends we've noticed doing a fantastic job of showing off their albums. Abby Rosenbaum from Abby Rose Photo seems to photograph and blog about all of her albums... Here's one of the latest albums featured on her blog. The team at Blue Sky Photography in the UK have a dedicated web page explaining their philosophy behind using Queensberry albums. They also include links to several example album designs. And New Zealand photographer Bruce Gabites of Fine Photography features some lovely images of his Queensberry albums in the album section To View More >>

(Warning: contains references to blue-grass and rock music) Johannes introduced me to his friends, Lyttelton band The Eastern. That’s OK, nobody else has heard of them either, and that's the point of this post. A while ago The Eastern opened in Auckland for Steve Earle, and more recently for Old Crow Medicine Show. Old Crow who? Heather and I bought tickets anyway, probably the only people in the audience who didn’t know anything about the main act. But then they came out and played. I was hooked after the first few bars Ketch looked wry, ironic and after your girlfriend. Willie wore a Neil To View More >>

Over the last few days I've had the pleasure of hosting Denis Reggie on a whirlwind visit to New Zealand. A lucky few had the chance to attend Denis's workshop. We got an insight into how he operates, and some valuable tips on how to get that killer shot. From the moment we arrived Denis's passion was evident. He loves photography, and weddings, and has some strong opinions on the modern day approach to shooting them. After shocking everybody with a challenge to "shoot a wedding without speaking", he opened our minds to the true meaning of wedding photojournalism and how it can be a part of every To View More >>

[caption id="attachment_7050" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Musée 10x7 dark tan; photography and page layout design by Johannes van Kan"][/caption] If you read my Musée story recently, you’ll recall it ended with a cliff-hanger … but it turned out well. You may remember we’d made an album featuring Christian [Oth's] images, but he'd never seen it. We were nervous. Well we finally did catch up, and he loved it. Then Johannes [van Kan’s] album of Virginia and Richard’s wedding won at WPPI. You can view his complete album on Youtube (no audio) or Vimeo (recommended: this is the To View More >>

We'd love to be there when you hand your bride her Queensberry album. Waiting for her reaction with baited breath. Now times that anxiety by 4-1/2 million and that was New Zealand in the last two minutes of the Rugby World Cup Final. The game was so tight that it came down to a kick from a fourth-choice reserve player from my little home town of Waiuku to clinch the cup. Stand up and take a bow, Stephen Donald. Talk about pressure. Now we can breath again. No we can't! We have an an earthquake, a shipwreck and an election to think about. Plus Christmas. At this time of year the pressure's on everywhere. Click here to watch the video on Vimeo. I remember someone in the graphic design industry (quite well known actually) posting a tweet saying, "Colour management is bullshit!" The picture that flashed through my mind was of graphic designers and brand managers hanging out at the printers, tweaking colours on the machine before they sign off on a job… And yet here we are at Queensberry, printing for very fussy photographers (often on the far side of the world), putting the prints into really pricey albums (sight unseen) and flying them at great expense to Europe, or North America, or Hong Kong.
